Michael Smith begins his second season with the UALR women’s basketball team as an assistant coach after a four year stint as women’s head coach at Moberly Area Community College.
 
While at Moberly Area Community College, Smith recorded a 102-34 overall record while leading his team to back-to-back Region XVI Championship victories in 2005 and 2006.  This accomplishment was the first time in 15 years.
 
The 2005 and 2006 district and region coach of the year led his team to the NJCAA National Tournament twice finishing in seventh place in 2005.
 
At MACC, Smith coached four NJCAA All-Americans and one WBCA/Kodak All-American as well as fifteen all-region selections.
 
Smith’s 2005-06 squad was preseason ranked number two in the nation.
 
Prior to MACC, Smith served as assistant women’s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.
 
While at ASU, Smith helped lead the team to two South Division Championships, one conference tournament championship, and one NCAA tournament appearance.
 
Smith started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northwest Missouri State University where he worked along side of Missouri State Hall of Fame inductee Wayne Winstead while obtaining his Master of Science in Education degree.
 
Smith completed his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Central Methodist University in May of 1996.
 
Smith and his wife Melanie reside in Little Rock with their son Cooper
