Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ky. ? Western Kentucky (18-23, 10-10 Sun Belt) sent 12 men to the plate as part of an eight-run fourth inning to down the UALR baseball team 14-7 at Nick Denes Field on Saturday afternoon.
WKU's Scott Colt went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI, and opened the fourth inning rally with a two-run homer ? his second of the year. Troy Frazier added a bases-clearing three-run double, from which the Trojans would never recover. Frazier went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI in the win, while leadoff hitter Scott Kaskie led the Hilltoppers with three hits.
UALR starter Ashur Tolliver (4-4) lasted just 3.1 innings, allowing six hits and seven runs (two earned) to the Hilltoppers. Junior Joe Campbell took the mound for Tolliver in the fourth, but was unable to escape the inning without further damage, as WKU touched Campbell for six runs and four hits over 0.1 innings.
WKU's Matt Ridings capitalized on heavy run production to improve to 6-1 on the year. Ridings allowed seven hits and six runs (five earned) to the Trojans, but racked up eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings. Steve Hupper worked the final 3.0 innings, scattering four hits and a run, to pick up his third save of the year.
Four Trojans enjoyed multi-hit efforts in the loss, led by junior Osvaldo Torres, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Torres, who belted his eighth home run of the year in the second inning, tied senior Brett Lawler with a team-high two RBI.
The Trojans (17-25, 5-14) will look to avoid a sweep by the Hilltoppers when the two teams conclude the three-game series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
