Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? The UALR Trojans baseball team (1-6) couldn't continue the momentum from yesterday's game as they fell to the University of Northern Iowa Panthers (3-4) by an 8-1 score. The Panthers put seven runs on the board before the Trojans could score their first run and put together 11 hits to the Trojans four.
The Panthers' combination of Chris Lopez and Brett Featherston did most of the damage as Lopez went 3-for-4 on the day with three doubles and four runs scored. Featherston hit a three-run home run in the top of the third off of Trojan Nathan Parker.
Parker went four innings and allowed seven hits and six earned runs before giving way to senior Mike Rogers. Rogers lasted 3.2 innings, scattering four hits and allowing two earned runs. Senior Steve Gilgenbach finished the outing for the Trojans, going the final 1.1 innings and striking out the side in the ninth.
Taylor Sinclair got the win for the Panthers, his first of the season. He went six innings, giving up four hits and striking out four.
The Trojans finally broke through on the ledger in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Tommy Mousel got hit by a pitch to start the frame, and senior Nick DeSanctis followed with a single through the right side of the infield. Junior Matt Apfel singled to left field to load the bases with no outs. Senior Robert Taylor then flew out to left field to drive in Mousel for the Trojans only run.
That ended the day for Sinclair as he gave way to Tim Flattery who pitched the last three innings in relief.
The Trojans return to Gary Hogan Field tomorrow afternoon for their final game against Northern Iowa. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
