LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? The UALR Trojans (7-9, 3-3)
dropped the rubber game of the three-game weekend series with the Florida
International Golden Panthers (9-4, 4-2) by the score of 13-2 in seven innings
Sunday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field.
The FIU offensive attack posted 13 runs on 12 hits and was
helped significantly by a Trojan pitching staff that was guilty of 12 walks and
two hit batsmen on the afternoon.
The Trojans got their two runs on five hits and scored a
run a piece in the fourth and fifth frames. The Trojans got their first run on
an RBI double to left center by Kody
Kroll, who finished the day 1-for-2. UALR got their run in the fifth on an
RBI single by Nate Brown, who now
has a team-high 15 RBI this season.
Leadoff hitter Pablo Bermudez led the way for FIU as he
finished 2-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored. Mike Martinez finished 3-for-4
with a home run and three RBI while Tyler Townsend also blasted a home run, his
second of the year, and had two RBI.
Sean Potter was hit with the loss for UALR,
dropping his record to 2-2 this season. Potter allowed three runs on seven hits
over 1.0 innings. Corey Polizzano improved to 1-1 as he picked up the win for
FIU. Polizzano pitched all seven innings and allowed five hits and just one
earned run while striking out 11 Trojan hitters.
Up next, the Trojans travel to Ruston,
La. on Tuesday for a game with Louisiana Tech
beginning at 6 p.m. UALR returns to conference action on Friday March 20, when
they head back into the state of Louisiana
to take on Louisiana-Lafayette.
