Box Score 2 NORMAN, Okla. ? The UALR baseball team (4-6) dropped a pair of games to No. 16 Oklahoma (9-3) at Dale Mitchell Park on Tuesday afternoon. OU's Casey Johnson went 5-for-9 with four runs scored and seven RBI in the doubleheader to lead the way for the Sooners.
Oklahoma jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings on its way to an 11-7 win in game one. The Trojans trailed 9-2 after six innings but rallied by scoring two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth. Senior Eric Hanlon, who went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI, did the damage for UALR in the seventh with a two-run homer.
After UALR made it a 9-7 contest by plating three runs in the top of the eighth, Casey Johnson gave the Sooners some insurance runs by belting a two-run homer of his own in the bottom half. UALR went quietly in the top of the ninth, as OU's Tyson Seng struck out two batters to finish off the 11-7 win.
Michael Rocha (1-1) picked up the win for OU after allowing seven hits, four runs (three earned) and three walks over 7.0 innings. UALR junior Anthony Pryor took the loss after surrendering eight hits, eight runs (seven earned) and four walks over 4.1 innings.
Casey Johnson and Jamie Johnson both homered in the second game to lead the Sooners to a 16-6 victory. Jamie Johnson hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first, and Casey Johnson blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to help OU jump out to a 10-0 lead after four innings.
The Trojans exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth, as sophomore Zach Rowles belted a two-run homer and senior Matt Apfel delivered a three-run bomb. Rowles led the Trojans with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, while juniors Landis Wilson and Anthony Gower added two hits a piece.
With their lead down to four runs, 10-6, the Sooners pushed across four runs off five hits in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach. OU's Kaleb Herren (2-0) picked up the win in relief by holding the Trojans to one hit over 2.2 scoreless innings. UALR starter Alex Smith (0-1) was credited with the loss after giving up seven runs (six earned) and six hits over 3.0 innings.
The Trojans return to action this weekend (March 6-8) when they head to Boca Raton, Fla. to open Sun Belt Conference play with a three-game series against Florida Atlantic.
