BOCA RATON, Fla. ? The
UALR Trojans (5-7, 1-1) failed to build on the momentum of Friday night's win
as they committed four errors in Saturday's 11-3 loss at Florida Atlantic (9-2,
1-1).
UALR starting pitcher Adam
Champion, who has been excellent so far in 2009, was unable to earn his
first victory of the 2009 season, as his record fell to 0-1. The lefty hurled
4.0 innings allowing six runs, just three earned, on seven hits while striking
out six and walking two in the losing effort. For the season, Champion still
sports a 1.96 ERA in 18.1 innings.
Barry Rooks improved to 2-0 on the year after allowing
just two runs on five hits over 7.0 innings pitched. The Trojans got one run
off of FAU relief pitcher William Block in the ninth inning for their final
score.
Offensively, UALR was paced by leadoff hitter Eric Hanlon, who enjoyed a 3-for-5 day
at the dish, including an RBI. Tyson
Parks added a solo home run in the top of the 4th inning, his first of the
season, to finish the day 1-for-4. Center fielder Nate Brown cashed in the other RBI for UALR on a ninth-inning
single. Brown finished the day 1-for-4.
The Owls were propelled by a 3-for-5 effort from first
baseman Travis Ozga. Ozga, who is now FAU's leading hitter at .409, added a
pair of doubles, four RBI and a run scored. Shortstop Nick DelGuidice also had
a three-hit day with an RBI and Block, who started at second before finishing
the game on the mound, was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
The two teams will conclude the three-game set tomorrow
afternoon with the first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 12 p.m. The likely
starter for UALR will be Sean Potter who
will enter the contest with a 1-1 record and an 8.18 ERA this season. Glen
Troyanowski will get the nod for FAU. This season Troyanowski has compiled a
6.10 ERA and is 1-1.
