Box Score OXFORD, Miss. ? No. 11 Ole Miss (29-11) scored two runs in each of the first two innings and starting pitcher Nathan Baker retired 11 in-a-row at one point to help the Rebels to a 6-1 victory over the UALR baseball team (9-26) on Tuesday night.
Ole Miss scored five runs over the first three innings as Zach Miller delivered a two-run single in the first and Brett Basham added a two-run homer in the second ? his second of the year. The Trojans managed just one run and five hits against Ole Miss' three pitchers and went scoreless over the final seven frames.
Baker improved to 3-0 on the year by scattering four hits over 5.1 innings pitched, with one run allowed and two strikeouts against no walks. After allowing a leadoff double to junior Landis Wilson in the top of the second, Baker retired 11 straight before junior Josh Marazzito singled in the fifth.
Wilson went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored to lead the way for UALR. Junior Jake Sullivan (3-4) took the loss after allowing eight hits, six runs and five walks over 5.2 innings of work.
Four players enjoyed multi-hit performances, led by Miller's 2-for-4, two-RBI effort. Reliever Aaron Barrett took the mound for Baker in the sixth inning and held the Trojans hitless over the next 2.2 frames.
UALR returns to action this weekend when it welcomes Houston Baptist to Gary Hogan Field for a four-game non-conference series (April 24-26).
