Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. ? Florida Atlantic (10-7, 3-2) avenged Friday's 16-6 loss to the UALR baseball team with an 11-0 victory over the Trojans (13-7, 1-4) on Saturday afternoon. FAU starter Mike Gipson went the distance in the 11-0 win, striking out 10 Trojans en route to the complete game shutout.
Gipson improved to 4-0 on the year by holding UALR to five hits and two walks over 9.0 innings, retiring 10-consecutive Trojans during one stretch. FAU outhit UALR 11-to-5 in the win, led by a 3-for-5, three-RBI performance from Andy Mee.
The Owls led 1-0 through three innings, but erupted for six runs off five hits in the bottom of the fourth to go on top 7-0. Nick Delguidice delivered a two-run single during the frame, while Eddie Cassidy capped off the six-run rally with a RBI base knock.
FAU tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the seventh, as Mee and Colby Gratton each hit a two-run homer.
UALR starter Daniel Golden (1-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up two hits, two runs and six walks over 3.0 innings. The Trojan defense, which entered the series leading the Sun Belt Conference in fielding percentage, committed a season-high three errors in Saturday's loss.
The two teams close out the three-game series at 12 p.m. (CT) on Sunday.
