Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The UALR Trojans baseball team completed their first sweep of the 2010 campaign Sunday afternoon, knocking off the IPFW Mastodons (0-9) by the score of 7-4 at Gary Hogan Field.
The Trojans had to hold off a 9th inning IPFW rally to secure the victory, but senior pitcher Sean Potter got AJ Christensen to fly out to centerfield to secure the win. Potter earned his first save of the year pitching just 0.1 innings.
Prior to the UALR bullpen taking over in the 8th inning, senior pitcher Tony Pryor was brilliant yielding IPFW to just one run on five hits in seven innings. Pryor struck out six Mastodons while walking just one, earning his first victory this year and lowering his ERA to 2.95.
UALR (10-2) took advantage of IPFW starting pitcher Lucas Kesterson's control problems, who walked four Trojan hitters and hit another in just two innings of work. Nate Brown, Tyson Parks and Jake Rowell all drew walks in the third inning and came around to score. Landis Wilson then drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 5-0. With the bases still loaded, Tim Emmons was hit by a pitch, giving UALR a 6-0 advantage.
From that point, the Trojans scored their only run the rest of the way in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Rowell to left which plated Jason Houston.
Houston recorded four of the Trojans seven hits on the afternoon and also added an RBI and a run scored. Parks, Rowell and Emmons all had one hit apiece.
IPFW, who out-hit the Trojans 9-7 on the afternoon, were paced by the top three hitters of their order, who combined to go 7-for-12. Leadoff hitter Joel Washko recorded three hits while Kurt Dudley and Brett Clark added two hits apiece.
The Trojans will return to action on Tuesday, March 9 when Stephen F. Austin comes to Gary Hogan Field. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
