Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Brock Feldman drew a one-out bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 11th inning to propel the UALR Trojans (9-2) to a 6-5 victory over the IPFW Mastodons (0-8) at Gary Hogan Field Saturday evening.
The RBI for Feldman came just after he had saved IPFW from scoring the go-ahead run on a beautiful diving play up the middle in the top of the 11th which forced Jason Doerffler to stay at third base, and ultimately holding the Mastodons to five runs. JR Boling would strike out the next IPFW hitter, stranding Doerffler at third.
"I'm proud of our guys for hanging in there," said head coach Scott Norwood. "We fell behind and I think we showed some character coming back and getting the win in extra innings. We made some nice plays to stop some of their rallies. Brock made a great play in the top half of the 11th to save a run and it was fitting that he got a chance to drive in the winning run."
The UALR bullpen trio of Calvin Drinnen, Garret Graziano and Boling combined to throw five innings, allowing just two runs and striking out three. Boling picked up the victory for the Trojans, improving his record to 1-1 on the season.
Daniel Golden got the starting nod for the Trojans, tossing six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four. Ryan August started for IPFW and allowed just two earned runs on nine hits, while striking out four over six innings of work. Matt Antos (0-2) was saddled with the loss for the Mastodons. He pitched 3.1 innings in relief, allowing two runs, one of which was earned while striking out four and walking three.
Offensively, the 14-hit Trojan attack was led by Landis Wilson, who finished the day going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Casey McCollum had two hits of his own and added two more RBI en route to the win.
Offensively, IPFW was led by Kurt Dudley, who was 3-for-5 with an RBI and Brendan Landwehr who added a hit and two RBI.
The Trojans trailed 3-1 before drawing even in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single off the bat of McCollum. UALR then took a 4-3 advantage in the seventh on a successful sacrifice squeeze by Wilson. After IPFW came back to take a 5-4 lead, UALR took advantage of a two-base error to get things started in the bottom of the 9th. Jake Rowell would then lace a one-out single down the right field line which scored Jason Houston to tie the game at five and force extra frames.
UALR will play for the sweep over IPFW tomorrow afternoon at Gary Hogan Field. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 1 p.m.
