Box Score NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Playing the final two innings of
an 11-inning game on Saturday morning following the postponement of play due to
darkness Friday evening, the UALR baseball team (0-1) dropped their season
opener at Stephen F. Austin (1-0) by a final of 8-7 at Jaycees Field.
The 'Jacks
scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning when a Jarid
Scarafiotti single to left field drove in Jordan Lewis from second base. Lewis
led off the inning with a drawn walk before advancing to second on a sacrifice
bunt.
The
Trojans' best chance to capitalize in the extra innings came in their first set
of at-bats. Jake Rowell led off the
top of the 10th inning with a drawn walk, while Jason Houston followed suit two batters later. With runners on
first and second and one out, Rowell and Houston were each able to advance on a
third-strike wild pitch, giving the Trojans two runners in scoring position
with two outs. However, SFA's Jared West was able to get the next batter, Sean Bignall, to ground out to third to
end the inning.
West was
credited with the win for the 'Jacks, while John Maler was given the loss for
UALR.
