Box Score NORMAN, Okla. - The UALR Trojans (6-7) fell by a
final score of 11-4 to the No. 2-ranked Oklahoma Sooners (15-0) on Friday at L.
Dale Mitchell Park. After UALR jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, the Sooners
scored 11 straight runs over their final five sets of at-bats to get the win
and keep their perfect record intact.
Sean Bignall and Nick Rountree led the Trojan offense as the duo combined for four
of the team's five hits. Bignall finished the day with a double and a single to
go along with two runs scored, while Rountree homered and singled and drove in
three of the Trojans' four runs on the day.
OU's
Michael Rocha picked up the win, going 7.0 innings while giving up 3 runs, two
of which were earned, on three hits. Garret
Graziano was saddled with the loss for the Trojans. The senior allowed five
runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings of work.
The
Trojans grabbed an early lead after picking up a pair of runs in the top half of
the second. After Bignall drew a one-out walk, Rountree hit his first home run
of the season to left field to put UALR up 2-0 on the No.2-ranked Sooners.
Bignall's
second run of the game in the top of the fourth increased the Trojan lead to
three. Following a two-out double, Bignall stole third base and was able to
score on an errant throw by the OU catcher, making the score 3-0, UALR.
After the
Sooners answered with a run in the bottom half of the fourth to cut the Trojan
lead to two, OU added two more runs to tie the game in their next set of
at-bats. With the bases loaded following three straight singles by Oklahoma, a two-RBI
single by Cameron Seitzer knotted the score at three.
A Max
White RBI single in the bottom of the sixth gave the Sooners their first lead
of the game. White's single through the left side scored Caleb Bushyhead from
third, who drew a walk to leadoff the inning. Two batters later, Garrett
Buechele singled up the middle to bring in two more Sooner runs and make the
score 6-3, Oklahoma.
A
three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth increased OU's lead to six. With
runners at second and third, Tyler Ogle hit a 1-2 pitch over the left field
fence that made the score 9-3.
After the
Sooners added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, an RBI single by
Rountree in the top of the ninth made it 11-4 before OU's Jack Mayfield got Hector Acosta to fly out to center to end
the game.
UALR and Oklahoma will play game
two of their weekend series on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
