season. Schlechte started the game and went 4.1 innings, giving up two runs
(one earned) on four hits and striking out three. Zack Smith was dealt the loss

in all five of his plate appearances. Senior Greg Garcia and sophomore Kaleb
Jobe both turned in three-hit performances. Garcia went 3-for-6 with four
RBI and a run scored, while Jobe was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI.
Senior Nick Rountree scored three
runs and was 1-for-2 with three walks and a homer.
UALR jumped out to an early lead, going up 2-0 in the
top of the second thanks in part to three SEMO throwing errors. First, sophomore
Bryson Thionnet reached on a
throwing error by the shortstop to leadoff the frame. Thionnet then stole
second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. The next
batter, Rountree, drew a walk, and Jobe then grounded into a fielder's choice
that scored Thionnet from third for the first run of the frame. The third and
final throwing error of the inning, this one by the third baseman, allowed Jobe
to score from second and gave UALR a 2-0 advantage.
After a solo homer by Rountree - his fourth of the season
- made it 3-0 in the top of the third, the Redhawks answered with a pair of
runs in the bottom half of the frame to pull within one. An RBI single by junior
Myles Parma in the top of the fourth
made it 4-2, and the Trojans exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth to
blow the game open and take a 10-2 lead.
After reaching base on a throwing error to start the
inning, junior David Guarno advanced
to second on a sac bunt by Thionnet, stole third and came home on a balk for
the inning's first run. An RBI double by Jobe was followed with an RBI single
by Bentley that plated two runs after the SEMO right fielder misplayed the base
hit. Two more RBI base hits by Garcia and Bignall brought in the final two runs
of the innings and allowed the Trojans to push their lead to 10-2 heading into
the sixth.
The Trojans would tack on four more in their next set
of at bats. Another RBI single by Bentley made it 11-2, and Parma drew a walk
with the bases loaded to put the Trojans up 10. The next batter, Garcia,
doubled with the bases loaded to plate two more UALR runs and put the Trojans
up 12, 14-2.
UALR added two more runs in the top of the seventh to
bring the game to its final score. Singles by Thionnet and Jobe were followed
with a wild pitch to give the Trojans runners at second and third with one out.
Another Redhawk miscue, this time a fielding error by the third baseman,
allowed both runners to come home and make it a 16-2 game.
UALR returns to action this Friday when it kicks off
Sun Belt Conference play in Jonesboro, Ark., against in-state rival Arkansas
State at 6:30 p.m.
