LITTLE ROCK – Get your maps and calendars out this weekend, as the UALR track and field teams will be taking part in four different meets in two states over the next three days.
A busy weekend for the UALR track and field teams kicks off on Friday afternoon as several Trojans take part in the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. UALR will be participating in Friday's Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., and in the Beach Invite in Norwalk, Calif., on Saturday. Finally, another group of Trojans will be staying closer to home and running in the UCA Open in Conway on Friday and Saturday.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, the UALR men's 4x100 relay team consisting of Kendrick Dunn, Tre' James, Anthony Louden and Dylan Wood will open action at 10:42 a.m. central time. The Trojans will also be represented by Casey Lane running in the 400 hurdles at 1:30 p.m.
On the same day just half an hour north in Azusa, five Trojans will take on the Bryan Clay Invitational. Sophomore Alford Tribble will run in the 200-meter dash at 1:35 p.m., Jack Bruce will take part in the 1500 at 5 p.m., John Vodacek and Shaun Koehn will race in the 5K at 7:05 p.m. and Desmond Gulley will compete in the long jump earlier in the day at 10:30 a.m.
Gulley is coming off victories in the long jump and triple jump at the UALR Open last weekend while Koehn claimed the 1500-meter race in Little Rock last weekend as well.
On Saturday, the Trojans will regroup at the Beach Invite where Lane will again run a 400 hurdles race, Bruce will run the 800 and Gulley will have a go at the long jump. The sprinters are going again as well, with Louden running in the 200 and 4x100 relay, Cory Martin taking on the 100, 200 and 4x100, Tribble running in the 200 and 4x100 relay and Dunn taking part in the 200 and 4x100 relay.
While in California, the Trojans will be facing off against runners and jumpers from schools across the nation. The Mt. SAC Relays is one of the largest track meets of the outdoor season and will include athletes from all levels.
Meanwhile, back in Arkansas on Friday and Saturday, other members of the UALR roster will be competing at the UCA Open in Conway. That meet will feature competition from across the state.
Last weekend, the Trojans hosted their second-ever UALR Open at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex. The team had three event wins and performed very well against largely in-state competition.
After this busy, spread-out week, the Trojans will regroup for the Red Wolf Open in Jonesboro on April 25.
