Trojans Begin Fall Practice

LITTLE ROCK- The Little Rock baseball team took the field on Monday for their first fall practice on a sunny day at Gary Hogan Field.

"We're always excited at this time of year for our fall practice to begin," said Head Coach Chris Curry. "I think we'll rely a lot on our returning players to lead us in our drills, the pace that we expect during practice, the energy and the effort level."

This year's team will contain a great deal of experience with 24 returning players while adding nine talented newcomers to the squad. Little Rock only lost nine players from the 2018 team.

"A lot of pitchers return and I believe there will be heavy competition on the mound for innings," Curry said. "Now is the time we find out who we can start to depend on. We're also excited about some new young players who we think will be able to help immediately."

The Trojan roster features four catchers, seven infielders, four outfielders, 11 right-handed pitchers, four left-handed pitchers and one two-player player who will pitch and also play in the infield.

"As always, our practices and scrimmages are open to the public and we invite anybody to come out at any time," Curry said.

This year's fall schedule will feature a scrimmage against Meridian CC on Oct. 6 and SEC opponent Ole Miss on Oct. 27. A parents' day scrimmage will also be held on Oct. 20, a great opportunity for families to see the new-look Trojans before the 2019 season.
