LITTLE ROCK – After more than a month-long hiatus, Little Rock's track and field team resumes its indoor season this weekend, traveling to the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, for the 2019 Samford Invitational.
The Trojans are one of 26 teams scheduled to compete in the two-day event, beginning Friday, January 18 and concluding Saturday, January 19. Competition begins with the weight throw and 200 meter dash Friday at 7 p.m., leading into a full day of action Saturday, getting underway at 8 a.m.
"The first meet after the holiday break is always a rust-buster and a little challenging," said head coach
J.P. Behnke. "We had some great performances at the Vanderbilt meet in December and are hoping to pick up where we left off."
Little Rock had a strong showing at the Vanderbilt Opener in Nashville on December 1, collecting 19 top-10 individual finishes in 15 separate events. The Trojans were led by Keshawn Andrews placing second in the men's 60 meter dash (6.81) while
Aaliyah Lacy placed second in the women's 200 meter dash (24.85), registering the third-fastest 200 meter sprint time in program history.
The trip to Birmingham will serve as a good tune-up for Little Rock as both the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships and the 2019 NCAA Indoor National Championships will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
