Justin Warren continued his impressive offseason by advancing to the quarterfinals of the Men's Australian Amateur Championship Match Play, held over the weekend at Woodlands Golf Club in Mordialloc, Australia.
Warren took the opening round 1-up over Timo Vahlenkamp of Germany, then bested Jake Burnage of England 4&3. He posted a convincing 6&4 decision over fellow Australian Jake Hughes before falling on the 18th hole against Michael Hirmer of Germany.
The performance was the latest in an impressive season for Warren, which began in the summer with a first-place showing at the 2018 Camden Cup and a fourth-place performance at the Canadian Amateur Championship. Returning to his native Australia, Warren then won the opening state of the PGA Tour Australasia Qualifying School, placing sixth in the final stage.
Two other Trojans competed on the other side of the globe over the weekend as well with current Little Rock sophomore and former Trojan golfer Johann Voss competing in the 2019 Latin America Amateur Championship in the Dominican Republic. The event is aimed at further developing the game of golf in South America, Central American, Mexico and the Caribbean and received coverage on ESPN platforms throughout the tournament.
Going against over 120 competitors, Lobo just missed the cut after the opening two round, finishing with a 6-over 150. After shooting a 5-over 77 in round one, Lobo rebounded with a 1-over 73 in round two, notching pars on his first 15 holes. Voss carded a 12-over 156, shooting a 6-over 78 in both of his rounds at the Teeth of the Dog course.
The tournaments wrap up a busy offseason for Little Rock as the Trojans now set their sights on the final seven tournaments of the 2018-19 season. That stretch begins in two weeks in Arizona when the Trojans will compete at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson January 28-29.
