LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Little Rock men's golf team built a commanding lead after two rounds of the Everett Buick GMC Classic at the Founders Course at Chenal Country Club on Monday.
The Trojans opened strong with an 11-under-par first round, then followed it up with a 12-under in round two to finish the day at 23-under, holding an 11-stroke advantage over Lipscomb and Southern Mississippi, who are tied for second.
Ed Featherstone led the way for Little Rock at 10-under, putting him in second place individually. Mark Stockdale sits ninth at 5-under, while Rhett South is 12th at 4-under and Viggo Talasmaki is tied for 16th at 3-under.
"It was really solid golf all day long from our guys," said Little Rock head coach Austin Eoff. "Different players stepped up at different moments, but overall it was steady, composed play. Ed played fantastic after a tough start this morning and has put himself in a great position to win individually at 10-under, just one shot off the lead. Mark had a huge back nine this afternoon that really helped our team score, and each guy contributed when it mattered most.
"Ed and Rhett had the third- and fifth-lowest rounds of the day in what was a tougher setup than round one, which says a lot about their focus. As a team, we really emphasized the par 5s this afternoon — we played them 8-under this morning and 15-under in round two. That was a big boost to our score and a major reason we have the lead going into the final round."
The final round of the Everett Buick GMC Classic tees off Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. and will conclude around 1:30 p.m.Fans are welcome to attend, and admission is free.
