LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Head Women's Basketball Coach
Joe Foley announced the signing of Tia Harvey to a National Letter of Intent Friday.
Harvey will join the Trojan program starting with the 2020-21 season. Little Rock, currently in its bid for a third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, will graduate two seniors this season.
A 5-foot-9 guard from Sachse, Texas, Harvey was a first team all-district selection in her junior campaign at Sachse High School as she set the school's record for steals in a single game with 13 swipes. The team's Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, she led Sachse to its third straight district title, an area title and a regional quarterfinal appearance.
"Tia is a very good athlete and will create a lot of opportunities for us with her speed and toughness," Foley said of his newest addition. "She is a great defensive player with a high motor and can break down opponents with her skill set. I am excited about getting to coach her."
In her sophomore season, Harvey took her team to the state semifinals after claiming district and regional championships. She claimed her first all-district honor that season.
"Tia is and has been a vital component of our success in her 4 years as a varsity player," Donna McCullough, Harvey's high school coach said. "Her leadership and competitive spirit is contagious! She has been a relentless defender for us for four years."
Little Rock returns to the hardwood on Saturday as the Trojans play host to Central Arkansas. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. as the two schools resume a rivalry that is part of the Governor's I-40 Showdown presented by Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield.
