LITTLE ROCK - The moment you've all been waiting for has finally arrived: the inaugural Little Rock Trojan wrestling season will officially commence this weekend. The team will be hitting the mat for the first time as a legitimate squad at the Oklahoma City Open tournament on Saturday, November 9 with matches beginning at 9 a.m.
Live brackets will be available on TrackWrestling for fans to follow along.
"Coach Javier and I are super excited to kick off our inaugural season this weekend at the OCU open," said head coach Neil Erisman. "It will be a great test and starting point for the rest of the season. We have the opportunity to set the tone for the year and gauge where we are so far. Excited to see what and who we are!"
Along with the host team, the Oklahoma City University Stars, there will be competition in attendance from 25 other schools. From D1 universities, wrestlers from Missouri, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State will make appearances. As for other Arkansas-based collegiate teams, there will be competitors from Arkansas Baptist, Central Baptist, University of the Ozarks, and Williams Baptist.
Since this is an open tournament, those that may plan on redshirting are able to compete as unattached members of the team. Through this method, multiple weight classes will be showcasing several Trojans this weekend as Little Rock begins to narrow down on its starters ahead of its first-ever home dual, set for Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2:00 p.m. in the Jack Stephens Center.
