Little Rock will be one of nearly 20 teams competing in Memphis this weekend, joined by Sun Belt Conference foe Arkansas State. The Trojans will be one of roughly a dozen Division I programs in action this weekend, joined by schools such as Austin Peay, Lipscomb, Murray State, Southeast Missouri, Tennessee State and UT Martin.
"This is the team's final test before heading to the Sun Belt Championship," said head coach
J.P. Behnke. "We are that point in the season when the weather is nice and our training allows for peak performances. My expectation is we will see several personal bests this weekend."
The two day event gets underway Friday, April 26 with the long jump, hammer throw and javelin at 2 p.m. Running events will start at 5 p.m. with the 1,500 and 5,000 meter runs sandwiching the 200 meter dash.
Saturday's competition begins at 10 a.m. with the high jump, pole vault and shot put, leading up to the beginning of the running events with the 4x100 meter relay at noon. The discus and triple jump will get underway at 1 p.m. with the running events scheduled to finish around 4 p.m. with the 4x400 meter relay.
After two weekends of washouts for the Trojans, Little Rock returned to the track in Jonesboro last week with 13 top-five event finishes. A handful of Trojans notched new personal-bests at the Arkansas State Red Wolves Open as well as the Little Rock men's and women's 4x400 meter relay teams both finishing second on the track in Jonesboro.
Following this week's meet in Memphis, Little Rock will have an off week to recover and train in preparation for the 2019 Sun Belt Championships, which will be held May 10-12 at the Arkansas State Track and Field Complex in Jonesboro.
