LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock sophomore Anton Albers put together an impressive showing this week at the 2019 British Amateur, held in Dublin, Ireland. Albers tied for sixth among 288 competitors in the two round stroke play, advancing to the match play championship where he fell in the round of 32.

Albers started out strong in the opening round of stroke play, firing a 4-under 68 over the par-72 course at Portmarnock. Albers notched a 2-under 34 over both the front and back nine, including birdies on holes three, seven, 10 and 11, and was tied for third after round one just one shot off the pace of the tournament leader.

Albers then shot a 3-over 74 in round two on the par-71 Island course, recovering from a 3-over 38 over the front nine to shoot even par over the final nine holes. He finished his two round stroke play with a 1-under 142, tied for sixth among the field and earning a spot in the match play championship.

After earning a bye in the opening round, Albers faced off Austria's Gerold Folk, who currently ranks 34th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. The Trojan sophomore held his own, but ultimately fell 4&3 to Folks to end his tournament in Dublin.

After joining the program at the start of the spring semester, Albers compiled an impressive freshman season in Little Rock. The Buchholz, Germany native competed in six tournaments for the Trojans, posting a 72.67 scoring average with 10 of his 18 rounds at par or better. He notched a pair of top-20 finishes, highlighted by his 12th-place showing at the Seattle Redhawk Invitational where he posted a 6-under 207.
