LITTLE ROCK - This Monday, swimming and diving head coach Amy Burgess officially unveiled the team's schedule for the 2019-20 season. "We are looking forward to challenging ourselves and elevating the level of competition this season as we welcome a large and talented incoming group and return some of our top performers," said coach Burgess.
The slate opens with an away meet at familiar North Texas on Sept. 28. After a week of additional prep, the squad will gear up for a busy fall. "We will build momentum into our mid-season meet and go against some of the best in the Midwest, including a first-time stop in Fayetteville to compete against the Razorbacks," Burgess added. Little Rock will head to Fayetteville on Oct. 5 for the first in-state showdown in school history.
A three-week campaign will begin on Oct. 19, with the first home meet of the season. Confirmed teams racing at the annual Little Rock Invitational at the Donaghey Aquatic Center include Oklahoma Baptist, Henderson State, Rhodes College, Hendrix College, and University of the Ozarks. Just seven days later, the Trojans will host Incarnate Word and Rhodes College. Wrapping up the three-straight weekends on Nov. 2, the swimming and diving team will participate in a Missouri Valley Conference tri-meet at Evansville, featuring Indiana State as well.
For their big mid-season meet, the Trojans will head to Topeka to make their fourth consecutive appearance in the Kansas Classic. The invitational will take place from Nov. 22-24 against multiple top-performing opponents including the Big12 hosts. This marks a chance for the squad to both lower their seed times and set themselves up for the championships at the end of the year.Â
After training through the entirety of December and most of January, the Trojans will enjoy racing the last two meet of the regular season at their home complex, hosting conference rival Southern Illinois as well as Henderson State on Jan. 18 while taking on Vanderbilt and Ouachita Baptist on Feb. 1 for Senior Day.
The season will wrap up for the Little Rock women at the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference Championships from Feb. 19-22, taking place at the top-notch Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Missouri.
"With our growth over the past several years, I am looking forward to seeing what this team can do in and out of the pool," said coach Burgess. "We have some great leadership coming from our upperclassman and they have helped strengthen the solid foundation established before them. This will be just the beginning of great things to come."
