Collier Records Milestone as Trojans Win in Statesboro

STATESBORO, Ga. – Kyra Collier hit a milestone and Joe Foley came one step closer from hitting another.

Collier, a senior, registered her 200th career steal while also scoring a game-high 17 points as Little Rock claimed a 65-49 win at Georgia Southern Thursday evening. The win, No. 799 in the storied career of Trojan Head Coach Joe Foley, pushed him to the precipice of yet another milestone.

Little Rock (10-11, 8-2 Sun Belt) claimed their fifth straight win as three Trojans reached double figures. Collier led the way while Tori Lasker scored 16 points behind a 6-for-7 performance including a quartet of treys. Teal Battle added 10 points for the Trojans.

The Trojans jumped out to a quick start to take a 21-7 lead after the first quarter, leaving the football-crazed school reeling at the first break. At that point, both the game's outcome and Collier's milestone seemed easily within reach as Little Rock was shooting 66.7 percent as a team and its senior captain had two steals early on.

But Georgia Southern (6-15, 3-7) employed an ever-changing defensive scheme that slowed Little Rock's offense back to a normal pace while doing their best to keep the ball anywhere but near Collier.

The third steal became elusive while the Trojan lead slowly started to dissipate. A 35-23 halftime lead still gave a double-digit advantage but the Eagles ended the half on a 3-0 run, one that was stretched to 6-0 to start the second half.

Finally, Collier found her moment. Taking advantage of Tsubasa Nisbet's bad pass, she grabbed the ball and fed Lasker for a 3-pointer on the fast break. It would be one of Collier's game-high six assists on the night.

Reenergized entering the final quarter, the Trojans went on an 11-1 run to pull its lead to up to 18 points and making sure it was out of reach of the homestanding Eagles, who fell to 0-10 all-time against Little Rock.

The Trojans now head to Atlanta to face Georgia State on Saturday for a chance to record Foley's 800th career win.

Tatum Barber led Georgia Southern with 12 points.
