JONESBORO, Ark. – Avianna Trinidad made a splash in her first-ever collegiate meet, vaulting into the third with the third-best pole vault mark in school history at the Scarlet and Black Invitational in Jonesboro.
Trinidad cleared a height of 11-075 (3.37m) Sunday evening, registering the third-best mark in school history and placing third in the meet. She was followed by teammate
Lauren Hurrell, whose mark of 10-6.75 (3.22m) placed her fourth.
That would be one of nine top-three finishes for the Trojans.
Colby Swecker led the way by winning the 800m with a time of 1:55.59 while
Andrew Payton ran 1:55.74 to finish third. Just missing out on a top-three finish but mere seconds behind Payton was Ricardo Banks, whose time of 1:55.87 placed him fourth.
On the women's distance side,
Kimberley Boni recorded a third-place finish as she ran a personal best time of 5:29.66, setting a new career-fast mark by 13 seconds. She was followed by
Amanda Gordon in fourth, who ran 5:45.12.
In the men's mile,
Hunter Tucker registered a second-place finish with a time 4:29.94 while another second place finish came in the men's high jump as
Christian Matamoros cleared a height of 6-9 (2.06m).
Spencer Cardinal claimed a third-place finish in the men's 3,000m run with a time of 8:59.14.
Jaelyn Tucker ran 7.39 in the 55m dash finals to finish third overall while on the men's side,
Cogan DeRousselle ran 6.43 to finish third in the finals after his initial time of 6.43 was the fastest in the prelims.
Little Rock returns to action next Sunday, Feb. 7, when the Trojans head to Birmingham, Alabama for a meet that will be hosted by South Alabama.
