Anton Albers Named Sun Belt Golfer of the Week

Senior shot a 13-under 203 en route to winning the Little Rock Invitational

LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock senior golfer Anton Albers has been named the Sun Belt Men's Golfer of the Week following a record-setting performance at the Little Rock Invitational. It is the first weekly honor of Albers' career and the second for the Trojans this season.

Albers was firing on all cylinders at the 2021 Little Rock Golf Classic, winning the event with a 13-under 203, shooting a 68-68-67 over the 54-hole event. The 203 was the second-lowest individual total in the 29-year history of the event and the second-lowest in program history for a 54-hole tournament, one shy of Justin Warren's 202 at the 2018 Trinity Forest Invitational. The 13-under is the new program record for an individual vs. par in a 54-hole event.

The Buchholz, Germany native was efficient over the course of the tournament on par-threes, leading the field at 4-under, while ranking tied for third in par-fives at 8-under as his 16 birdies led the competitors. The win for Albers is the third of his Trojan career, tied with Patrick Sullivan for the second-most individual wins in program history, one back of Daniel Fox's four from 1998-01. In six rounds this season, Albers has been under par in all of them with four rounds in the 60s, leading Little Rock with a 68.86 average.

Albers becomes the second Trojan to earn Sun Belt weekly accolades this season, joining teammate Magnus Lomholt on September 16. With Albers' conference honor, Little Rock as a department now has seven through the fall season, third in the league excluding football behind Arkansas State (10) and Georgia Southern (nine).

Albers and the rest of the Trojans are in the Bahamas, getting set to close out the fall season serving as the host school for the White Sands Bahamas Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will take place Friday, October 29 through Sunday, October 31 at Atlantis Paradise Islands in the Bahamas.
