Little Rock Track and Field Qualifies Two for NCAA West Prelims

Curington, Jones extend freshman outdoor campaigns

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock's Johnathan Jones and Ryan Curington have both extended their freshman seasons as the pair of Trojan student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA West Prelims in the high jump and the long jump, respectively.

This will be the first time both student-athletes will advance to the NCAA postseason and mark Little Rock's return to the preliminary championship round for the first time since 2018.

Jones finished the season ranked 18thth on the West Prelims performance list after his mark of 7-1 (2.16m) on April 10 set a new school record. He remains the only Trojan to ever clear the 7-foot threshold.

Curington jumped 24-11.75 (7.61m) at the Sun Belt Championships to finish second while also recording the second-best jump in school history. He enters the NCAA Preliminary round ranked 29th on the West Performance List.

The NCAA West Prelims runs from May 26-29 in College Station, Texas. Curington will compete in the long jump on Wednesday, May 26 at 3 p.m. while Jones will compete in the high jump on Friday, May 28 at 1 p.m.
