COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Four athletes from the Little Rock Track and Field program represented the Trojans this week at the NCAA West Regional First Rounds at Texas A&M University, and while they may not have landed a spot at the national championships in Oregon next month, each finished stellar seasons with strong showings.
Aaliyah Mathis finished in the women's discus on Saturday and was the final of the four to compete. Mathis wrapped up her collegiate career with a throw of 48.51 meters (159-2), just a few meters shy of qualifying for nationals in Oregon.
Tyler Moore made it past Wednesday's opening round of the men's 400-meter hurdles, running a 51.07 to advance into Friday's national quarterfinals. Unfortunately, Moore tweaked his hamstring during Wednesday's race and finished with a time of 1:09.22 on Friday, short of the mark for advancement to Eugene.
TaVieon Neal finished outside of advancement during Wednesday's 100 meters first round, crossing with a time of 10.61. He missed qualifying for the quarterfinals by 0.14 seconds. In Friday's high jump event,
Deshawn Roberts cleared 2.04 meters, but missed the qualifying mark of 2.17.
