NORMAN, Okla. – Little Rock's men's golf program has been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as President's Special Recognition honorees at the Division I level.
2020-21 GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award Recipients
The Trojans are one of 42 programs nationwide to earn the honor, recognizing programs with a team GPA of 3.50 or higher, and the lone Sun Belt Conference institution on the list. Additionally, Little Rock is one of just two programs to receive the honor that qualified for the 2021 NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Arizona, joined by East Tennessee State.
As a team, Little Rock boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.54, coming off a strong 2020-21 academic season in which the Trojans notched a 3.65 in the fall and a 3.52 in the spring. Seven Trojans currently have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, including a 4.00 for
Nico Horder and a 3.95 for
Anton Albers as the duo closed out the academic season with a 4.00 GPA.
The successes in the classroom were equaled by the performances on the course as Little Rock closed the 2020-21 season ranked 43rd nationally, the best ranking in program history. The Trojans ended the year with five top-five team finishes in nine events, including capturing the 2020 Little Rock Golf Classic in record-setting fashion.
Little Rock carried that momentum into the postseason, finishing second at the Sun Belt Championship both in stroke play and match play, qualifying for NCAA Regionals for the third time in program history. The Trojans would use a dramatic comeback on the 18th hole to secure a fifth-place showing in Stillwater, earing the program' first-ever spot in the NCAA Championship.
Individually,
Anton Albers ended the regular season ranked second among all Sun Belt golfers, en route to earning first team All-Conference and PING All-Region honors. He was joined in the individual accolades by
Logan Pate, being named a third team All-Sun Belt honoree.
