Another Trojan Rally Falls Short

Little Rock falls to UT Arlington, 64-53

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Raziya Potter scored 16 of her 23 points in the second half but the Potter-led Little Rock rally fell short in a 64-53 loss to UT Arlington Saturday afternoon at the Jack Stephens Center.

The Trojans (8-8, 3-3 Sun Belt) used a 20-2 run in the third quarter to cut UTA's lead to just two at 43-41 with 31 seconds left in the period. Potter led that effort with eight points in that run before the Mavericks (13-5, 7-2), who never trailed in the game, stopped the hosts comeback effort.

Sali Kourouma nearly registered a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds while Angelique Francis, who also scored eight points in that third quarter run, tallied nine points overall and seven boards.

UT Arlington was able to end the third quarter with a traditional three-point play by Starr Jacobs, sending the game into the final quarter with a 46-41 Maverick advantage. Jacobs, who led all players with 24 points, scored nine of that total in the final quarter.

That furious rally in the third quarter featured 64.3% shooting by the Trojans, a mark that buoyed the 42.3% the team shot overall. But that third quarter was effort was required after falling behind early with UTA holding a 20-6 advantage after one quarter of play.

It marked the second straight game the Trojans had to fight back from a large deficit, trailing Texas State by 19 points four minutes into the third quarter on Thursday. That game was extended into triple overtime. In Saturday's game, UTA held a 20-point lead at a nearly identical point.

If Little Rock is to attempt any more come-from-behind wins, it won't have the home crowd advantage. In their final season in the Sun Belt Conference, the Trojans have just one home game over the final month of the season. The league schedule was released before Little Rock announced its intentions to join the Ohio Valley Conference on July 1.

The soon-to-be road warrior Trojans will south next week with a Feb. 3 game at Louisiana before a Feb. 5 contest at ULM. Both games will air live on ESPN+.
