Â
Tournament Field
Little Rock will once again face another challenging field as 12 of the 15 schools competing at the Trinity Forest Invitational finished the 2021-22 season ranked among the GolfStat Top-100 with New Mexico (No. 39), SMU (No. 40), Little Rock (No. 43) and Baylor (No. 53) finishing among the top-60. Five of the teams qualified for NCAA Regionals in 2021, comprised of the Trojans, Houston, Loyola Marymount, New Mexico and SMU.
Â
Trojan Lineup
Little Rock will go with the same lineup it fielded at last week's Windon Memorial Classic, led by reigning Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week
Jansen Smith in the number one spot.
Matteo Cristoni, who was the OVC Golfer of the Week on September 14, will be the number two golfer, followed by
Anton Albers,
Archie Smith and
Nico Horder.
Magnus Lomholt will also make the trip to Texas, competing as an individual.
Â
Trojans at Trinity Forest
Little Rock has experienced success at Trinity Forest Golf Club, competing in the event in each of the past four seasons with three-straight top-five team finishes. Trinity Forest has been the site of a handful of record book performances, including single round 64s from
Anton Albers (2021) and Justin Warren (2018) and a 65 last season from
Jansen Smith. Warren's 11-under 202 at the 2018 event is tied for the lowest 54-hole individual tournament score I program history while Smith's 8-under 205 in 2021 is tied for fifth all-time with Albers' 7-under 206 in 2020 is tied for seventh.
Â
Last Year's Results
Little Rock tied for third at the 2021 Trinity Forest Invitational, shooting a 4-under 848 at the event. A pair of Trojans finished in the top-10 at last year's event, led by
Jansen Smith tying for second with an 8-under 205, including a 6-under 65 in round three.
Anton Albers tied for 10th with a 3-under 210 as both Smith and Albers shot par-or-better in all three rounds with a combined three rounds in the 60s.
Â
Last Time Out
Little Rock tied for second at the Windon Memorial Classic with
Jansen Smith finishing second in the individual field in the Chicago suburbs. The Trojans posted a 7-over 847, including an even-par 280 in round one, finishing in a three-way tie for second with Kent State and Marquette. Smith placed second with a 5-under 205, including a 5-under 65 in round one, both of which tied his career-bests, with
Matteo Cristoni tying for fourth overall with a 2-under 208, highlighted by a 3-under 67 in round two.
Â
Conference Honors For Smith
Following his runner-up showing at the Windon Memorial Classic,
Jansen Smith was named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Male Golfer of the Week for his 5-under 205. Smith finished even on both par-three and par-four holes, shooting 5-under on the par-five holes, as his runner-up showing was the second of his Little Rock career as Smith now has four top-10 career individual showings and 18 rounds of par-or better. He is the second Trojan to earn OVC Golfer of the Week honors this season, joined by
Matteo Cristoni on September 14, and is the fourth Trojan on the active roster to earn conference Golfer of the Week honors, along with
Anton Albers and
Magnus Lomholt, both of which earned a pair of Sun Belt accolades last season.
Â
Strong Start For Cristoni
Matteo Cristoni has made quite a start to his Little Rock career as the sophomore has logged back-to-back top-four individual tournament finishes. Cristoni tied for third at the Olympic Club Intercollegiate with a 4-under 209 while tying for fourth at the Windon Memorial Classic with a 2-under 208. The transfer from Grand Canyon is tied for the team-best in scoring average at 69.50 with four rounds of par-or-better, including a pair of rounds in the 60s.
Â
Albers Record Watch
Fifth-year seniorÂ
Anton Albers notched another impressive career milestone earlier this month, playing in his 100th career round as a Trojan in round two of the Olympic Club Intercollegiate. The 2021-22 Sun Belt Golfer of the Year and PING honorable mention All-American sits among the Little Rock career record book in a number of categories, raking second all-time in scoring average (72.61), tournament wins (three) and par-or-better rounds (46) and sits 14th in career rounds played (104), 16 back of former teammate Logan Pate, the program's all-time leader.
Â
Busy Fall Stretch
Little Rock will close the fall portion of its 2022-23 schedule at a frenetic pace, competing in four tournaments in four different states over the span of four weeks. The Trojans will travel to Illinois, Texas and Indiana before returning to Chenal Country Club for its host tournament, traveling over 3,300 miles over the course of those four weeks. Adding in the season-opening tournament in San Francisco, Little Rock will have traveled close to 7,300 miles during the fall season.
