CHARLESTON, Ill. – Little Rock could not find its rhythm serving and was unable to come through in back-to-back close sets as the Trojans dropped the series opener at Eastern Illinois, 3-0, Friday evening at Lantz Arena in Charleston.
Â
Laure Jansen led the Trojans (3-13, 0-3 Ohio Valley) with 10 kills while
Zanobia Willis added five blocks, but Eastern Illinois (9-8, 3-1) hit a decisive .347 to Little Rock's .115 to control the match. Set scores were 25-11, 25-20 and 25-20.
Â
After EIU controlled the first set with a .400 hitting percentage, Little Rock kept it close in the middle frame as the Trojans limited the Panthers to just a .216 clip thanks to five Trojan blocks in the set. But even a much-improved .312 team hitting percentage in the third set wasn't enough, as Eastern Illinois also responded with a match-best .455 mark.
Â
The Trojans did not do themselves any favors, serving up seven errors in the match but the injury-plagued team from Little Rock was forced to utilize player in the service game that rarely, if ever, regularly serve.
Â
Eastern Illinois committed few errors en route to their third conference win of the year with Kaitlyn Flynn leading the Panthers with a match-high 18 kills.
Â
The two teams will square off once more on Saturday in Charleston. First serve is set for 4 p.m. with a live broadcast on ESPN+.
