LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock will begin its final stretch of the regular season on Saturday with a trip up to face an old foe in the final Sun Belt Conference meeting between the Trojans and Arkansas State.
Â
But it will be more than just a single game or bragging rights on the line. Little Rock, currently tied for third in the Sun Belt alongside App State and Texas State, will be fighting for a top-four spot and potential bye in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
Â
It will also mark the final meeting of the two teams in Sun Belt Conference play before Little Rock departs for the more regionally-oriented Ohio Valley Conference.

Five Things to Know
- Bye, Bye, Bye (Bye)
More than just immortal lyrics from *Nsync, with the Sun Belt approaching the last few weeks of the season, all eyes are on the byes. The top four seeds in the 2022 Sun Belt Tournament in Pensacola will receive a first round bye. Little Rock enters this game in a tie for third with App State and Texas State but the Trojans would not win out in a three-way tiebreaker with those two teams.
- Things Are Heating Up
Who said February was a cold month? Little Rock is making February a month of hot instead of cold as the Trojans enter this game having won five straight games. That includes a heartfelt 88-36 win over Champion Christian on Valentine's Day.
- Among the Nation's Best
Entering this game, Little Rock ranks third nation in preventing assists. Trojan opponents have only dished out 185 steals, one of the lowest numbers of any team in the country. It's not just assists, either. Trojan opponents have only managed 111 steals this season, the sixth-fewest of any team in the country, while also only recording 50 blocks, the 32nd-fewest mark in the nation.
- Fly in the Ointment
Little Rock seems to be the fly in the ointment for other teams. The Trojans have limited opposing teams to just 193 offensive rebounds, the 17th-fewest in the nation.
- Death. Taxes. Joe Foley's Defense.
If there's one thing coaches don't want to face, it's Joe Foley's defense. If there's two things they don't want to face, it's Joe Foley's defense twice in the same weekend. That is because Little Rock and Joe Foley have set the standard when it comes to the Trojans defensive efforts, ranking in the top two of the conference in 10 of the past 11 years in scoring defense while ranking in the top 25 nationally in scoring defense in nine of past 11 years. The 2021-22 season is shaping up to be no different as Little Rock leads the Sun Belt and ranks 37th in the nation in scoring defense entering this game.
