Five Things to Know
- It All Comes Down to This
Two games to decide whether Little Rock finishes anywhere between 1st and 7th in the Sun Belt standings this season. In one of the wilder finishes to the Fun Belt in recent years, a lot is at stake over the final two games - not just for the Trojans but for all teams in the league.
- Things Are Heating up
Who said February was a cold month? Little Rock is making February a month of hot instead of cold as the Trojans enter this game having won six straight games. That includes a heartfelt 88-36 win over Champion Christian on Valentine's Day. The streak started immediately after UTA's last win over Little Rock.
- Among the Nation's Best
Let's simplify this for you. Little Rock's defense is good. So good, opponents have only managed 196 assists off the Trojans, a mark that is so low it ranks Little Rock second in the nation. Meanwhile opponents have only managed 119 steals, ranking fifth-fewest in the nation, while the 50 blocks Trojan opponents have recorded ranks as the 16th-fewest in the country.
- Fly in the Ointment
Little Rock seems to be the fly in the ointment for other teams. The Trojans have limited opposing teams to just 205 offensive rebounds, the 13th-fewest in the nation.
- Last Trip Around the Sun
With great fanfare, Little Rock Athletics announced on Dec. 9 that the Trojans would be moving to the Ohio Valley Conference on July 1, 2022. This will take Little Rock's Team from the far-flung Sun Belt and move the Trojans into a more regionally-aligned and geographically focused conference where the there is only one institution further than a six hour drive. Only five of the soon-to-be 15 Sun Belt schools are located within a six hour drive with six school located more than 10 hours away. Once it joins the league this July, Little Rock will become one of the league's 10 institutions, joining Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, Morehead State, Southeast Missouri State, Southern Indiana, SIU Edwardsville, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin, and will become just the 22nd member the 74-year old conference has had.
