LITTLE ROCK - Six Little Rock swimmers will race at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships (NIC) in Elkhart, Indiana from March 10-12:
Jaelle Carlson,
Carolyn Godwin,
Lauren Gray,
Annya Grom,
Cheryl Poulsen and
Asmalia Redzuan. This is the first time since 2017 that any Trojan swimmer or diver has advanced to an additional postseason competition past the conference championships.
"This week is a great opportunity and step for our program," said head coach
Amy Burgess. "Always striving to raise the bar has brought us here, and we are excited to gain this experience and see what this special group can do."
The NIC provides a culminating event for those Division I swimmers and divers that have achieved B standards, but are not selected for the NCAA Division I Championships, which includes Grom as the sole Trojan to post an NCAA B cut in program history. The junior will be racing in the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle this upcoming weekend, seeded third and 10th, respectively.
In addition, any individual or relay team who equals or surpasses the CSCAA 'A' standard during the qualifying period shall be eligible to compete at the Championship, which encompasses Godwin (100 IM) and Carlson (50 butterfly).
Gray, Poulsen and Redzuan will also be racing as members of Little Rock's three CSCAA 'A' standard relays: the 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, and 200 medley relay. Notably, these are the three relays that the Trojans set
new school records in this season.
Since the trio qualified via relay, they are also allowed to enter individual events if they have achieved the CSCAA 'B' standard, which includes Gray's 50 fly as well as Redzuan's 50 fly and 100 fly. For more information on the National Invitational Championships,
