Trojans Tie For Stroke Play Title, Albers Notches Runner-Up Finish

EL DORADO, Ark. – After 54 holes of stroke play, Little Rock and Georgia Southern tied for the team title at the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championship at Mystic Creek Golf Club as the two teams each posted a 25-over 889. The Trojans and Eagles both clinched their spots in Wednesday's match play championship, joined by UT Arlington (36-over 900) and Georgia State (40-over 904).

Being Little Rock and Georgia Southern tied for the team title, the tiebreaker for seeding purposes went to the score of the number five golfer, giving the Eagles the edge for the number one seed and giving the Trojans the number two seed.
 
Little Rock will square off with third-seeded UT Arlington with Georgia Southern facing Georgia State in the semifinals, getting underway at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
 
Scores were elevated across the board for Tuesday's final round after having a day off Monday due to thunderstorms. The Trojans entered with a two shot lead on the Eagles and posted a 19-over 307 while Georgia Southern shot a 17-over 305 to pull even.
 
Individually, Anton Albers notched a runner-up finish through stroke play, finishing second at 3-over 219 following a 4-over 76 in round three. Albers finished as the top competitor on the par-five holes at 4-under, while finishing even and tied for fourth on the par-threes. He also notched nine birdies, tied for sixth.
 
Jansen Smith and Marcel Rauch just missed finishing in the top-20 as the duo tied for 21st at 12-over 228 with Smith notching a 5-over 77 and Rauch carding an 11-over 83 in round three. Rauch finished third on the team in par-three scoring at 2-over with Smith second among the Trojans on par-fives with a 1-over.
 
Magnus Lomholt was one stroke back of the duo, tying for 24th at 13-over 229 with a final round 6-over 78. Nico Horder rounded out the Little Rock scorecard with a 17-over 233, including a final round 4-over 76, tying for 41st individually.
 
The effort over stoke play secures the second-straight appearance in the match play championship for Little Rock as the Trojans fell to Georgia Southern in the finals in 2022.
