Three Four Things to Know:
- All Hail King Jackson
Little Rock's Cameron Jackson enters this week's championship action as the fastest man in the Sun Belt, leading the conference in the 100m and 200m dashes. He will put that title to the test in both races this week with the 200m prelims on Thursday and the 100m prelims on Friday. The finals of both races are set for Saturday.
- Will We See Continued Improvement?
Last year, Little Rock's men posted its best finish at the Sun Belt Championships since 2017 as the Trojans tied for ninth and scored 24 points. The women equally made strides, posting their most points since 2018. Both teams will look to leave a mark in their final Sun Belt Championship appearance before moving to the more regionally aligned Ohio Valley Conference next year.
- A Family Affair
When Cogan DeRousselle hits the track this week at the Sun Belt Championships. His name will be noted in Lafayette as he is the cousin of Charles DeRousselle, one of the fastest hurdlers in Ragin' Cajun history. Charles DeRousselle is part of the school record holding 4x800m and Sprint Medley relay teams while ranking third in school history in the 400m with a time of 50.76. - Teach 'Em How to Say Goodbye
With great fanfare, Little Rock Athletics announced on Dec. 9 that the Trojans would be moving to the Ohio Valley Conference on July 1, 2022. This will take Little Rock's Team from the far-flung Sun Belt and move the Trojans into a more regionally-aligned and geographically focused conference where the there is only one institution further than a six hour drive. Only five of the soon-to-be 15 Sun Belt schools are located within a six hour drive with six school located more than 10 hours away. Once it joins the league this July, Little Rock will become one of the league's 10 institutions, joining Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, Morehead State, Southeast Missouri State, Southern Indiana, SIU Edwardsville, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin, and will become just the 22nd member the 74-year old conference has had.
