LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock concludes its five game home stand by welcoming UA Pine Bluff to Gary Hogan Field in a Tuesday evening midweek contest. The game between the Trojans and Golden Lions was scheduled to be the second of a home-and-home series, but the first game between the two on April 5 in Pine Bluff was rained out.
Â
How Sweep It Is
Little Rock is coming off a weekend sweep of ULM, capped by a dramatic 7-6 walkoff win Sunday at Gary Hogan Field. The Trojans found themselves trailing in all three games, but rallied back to win 4-3 on Friday, 12-9 on Saturday and 7-6 Sunday afternoon, including scoring nine unanswered Saturday for the victory.
Â
Big Bat Soto
Miguel Soto was one of the key offensive weapons for Little Rock during the three-game sweep of ULM, going 7-for-9 for a .778 batting average with four doubles and a home run, driving in four. Soto boasted a 1.556 slugging percentage and an .818 on base percentage after drawing a walk, including the bases-clearing three run double to put the Trojans in front for good in Saturday's game and the solo home run in the eighth to put Little Rock on top 6-5.
Â
Take A Chance
Chance Vaught was solid out of the bullpen for Little Rock last week, making appearances in three of the four games with a 0.00 ERA, allowing just two hits over 5.1 innings with eight strikeouts. Vaught earned the win in Saturday's game, going 3.0 innings and limiting the Warhawks to just one hit while striking out five to help preserve the come-from-behind victory.
Â
Home Sweet Home
With the 4-0 week last week, including the midweek win over Louisiana Tech and the series sweep of ULM, Little Rock improved to 18-9 at home this season, its most home wins since going 20-11 in 2014. The 18 victories at home is the most for head coach
Chris Curry, besting the 16 won in 2019, as he improves to 105-80 (.568) all-time at Gary Hogan Field.
Â
Into the Record Books
With his season-high nine strikeouts Friday night,
Hayden Arnold moved atop the record books in career strikeouts, sitting at 292 and moving past Bennett Cromer's 290 from 2002-05 to become the program's all-time leader. Arnold ranks among the top-eight in program history in seven other categories, including ranking third in appearances (72), wins (18) and innings pitched (289.2).
Â
Scouting the Golden Lions
UAPB enters this week with a 9-29-1 overall record and 5-15 in SWAC play, currently sitting fifth in the West Division after getting swept by Texas Southern in Pine Bluff this weekend. As a team, the Golden Lions are batting .281 with a .417 slugging percentage, hitting 20 home runs with 76 doubles on the season. On the mound, UAPB has team ERA of 9.20, allowing the opposition to bat .322 with 253 combined strikeouts.
