INDIANAPOLIS – Despite losing the tiebreaker for the 48
th and final spot in the long jump on the NCAA West Prelims declaration list, Little Rock's
Ryan Curington stayed in Arkansas to continue training, both as an alternate for the men's 4x100m relay and in a "Just in Case" scenario. Just in case recently became "just took place."
After the announcement of a scratch in the long jump, Curington has been added to the event in the upcoming NCAA West Preliminary Championships, which start Wednesday at John McDonnell Track in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Curington's addition marks the second straight year the Chicago native will compete in the NCAA outdoor postseason and marks a school record sixth qualifier for the NCAA Prelims for Little Rock. He joins
Cameron Jackson (100m),
Taveion Neal (100m),
Johnathan Jones (high jump),
Jordan Wallace (triple jump) and the men's 4x100m relay.
Last season, Curington finished 32
nd at the NCAA West Prelims with a jump of 23-11.75 (7.31m), eclipsing two Big 12 jumpers by a quarter-inch.
This year's NCAA West Prelims gets underway on Wednesday, May 25 with Curington in the long jump at 6 p.m. and the 100m dash featuring
Cameron Jackson and
Taveion Neal slated for 7 p.m.
