AUSTIN, Texas – Senior golfer
Anton Albers has added one more honor to his incredible 2021-22 season, being named a second team CoSIDA Academic All-American in the men's at-large category.
The honor brings another accolade to a historic year for both Albers and the Little Rock golf program as he has been named the Sun Belt Golfer of the Year, a first team PING All-Region selection and an honorable mention All-American by GCAA. Albers was a first team Academic All-District selection as well, paving the way for his Academic All-America honors. He becomes the first player in the department's history to be named conference Player of the Year, All-Region, All-American and Academic All-American in the same season.
Albers becomes the 11th different Trojan in program history to earn Academic All-America honors, all coming since 2001. He becomes the third in the last four seasons for Little Rock, joining baseball's Riley Pittman (2019) and wrestling's Paul Bianchi (2021) as a second team honoree.
The 2022 Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Year closed out his record-setting 2021-22 season with a 70.97 scoring average, becoming the tops in program history and besting the previous mark of 71.41, set by Justin Warren in 2018-19. Albers closed the regular season as the number one ranked golfer in the Sun Belt, sitting number 31 in the final GolfStat national rankings and tied with assistant coach
Patrick Sullivan (2004-05) for the second-highest rated golfer in program history behind Daniel Fox's number 20 ranking in 2000-01.
Albers closed out his senior season with 20 rounds of par-or-better in 30 rounds played, including 10 rounds in the 60s. He shot a program-record 64 on a pair of occasions, while his 8-under 202 at the Goodwin is tied for the lowest individual mark in program history. He registered top-10 finishes in eight of his 10 events, including winning the Little Rock Invitational and notching runner-up showings at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate and the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
The Buchholz, Germany, native boasts a 3.96 GPA in finance, including a 4.0 during the spring 2022 semester. He is the lone Sun Belt student-athlete named to the Academic All-America team and one of five golfers recognized, joined by Mississippi State's Ford Clegg (first team), Liberty's Austin Duncan (second team), Cincinnati's Sam Jean (second team) and Texas' Cole Hammer (third team).
Albers has spearheaded Little Rock to two of the most memorable seasons in program history as the Trojans finished the year ranked 43rd nationally in the final GolfStat team rankings, matching the final ranking in 2020-21. The Trojans captured the 2022 Sun Belt Conference title in its final year as a league member and qualified for NCAA Regionals for the second-straight year and the fourth time in program history.
