LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Director of Athletics
George Lee announced Wednesday that the Trojans men's and women's basketball programs have signed a four-year scheduling contract to continue Little Rock's basketball rivalry with Arkansas State.
Â
The agreement allows for each program to host one of the rivalry games each year, alternating with the men's and women's games. This upcoming season, the men's game will be played in Jonesboro while the women's game will be played at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock. Exact game dates and times will be announced soon.
Â
"It is important for us to continue playing our in-state rivals," said Little Rock Director of Athletics
George Lee. "One of my first priorities after announcing our new conference affiliation was to ensure we kept playing Arkansas State and I am glad we can do that. I'd like to thank Arkansas State for helping to make sure this happens because it is good for both of us to continue this rivalry."
Â
For Little Rock, the agreement ensures the Trojans will face two in-state rivals during the non-conference portion of the schedule each year as this deal aligns with Little Rock's non-conference scheduling agreement with Central Arkansas. It is also situated such that both the men's and women's programs will have at least one in-state rival playing at the Jack Stephens Center each year.
Â
The Trojans and Red Wolves have played each other every season as joint members of the Sun Belt Conference but Little Rock will be moving to the more regionally conscious and basketball-focused Ohio Valley Conference beginning July 1.
Â
Little Rock Men's Basketball first played Arkansas State during the 1931-32 season, just the second season in the program's existence, while the Little Rock Women's Basketball team first faced A-State on the hardwood in the 1975-76 season.
Â
The announcement comes as the Trojans will soon be launching renewals and new sales for basketball season tickets. Stay tuned to LRTrojans.com over the next few days for more information.
