Â
Tournament Field
Little Rock is one of 10 teams competing in the season-opening event as the field is comprised predominantly of schools from the west coast. Little Rock enters the event as the number three ranked team based off the final 2021-22 GolfStat rankings. The Trojans ended the year number 43 in the final rankings and will be one of six NCAA tournament teams among the field, joined by BYU (No. 41), Nevada (No. 33), San Diego (No. 59), host San Francisco (No. 57) and UC Davis (No. 63).
Â
Trojan Lineup
Head coach
Jake Harrington will take a mix of experience and newcomers to San Francisco next week, led by reigning Sun Belt Golfer of the Year and honorable mention All-American
Anton Albers.
Nico Horder and
Jansen Smith return to the lineup with transfer
Matteo Cristoni and redshirt
Louis Talarczyk making their Trojan debuts.
Magnus Lomholt will also make the trip, competing as an individual.
Â
Trojans in California
Little Rock will make the first of two trips this season to the Golden State and the first since competing in The Goodwin in Palo Alto this past spring, tying for sixth among the 28-team field with an 11-under 829. The Trojans' second trip to California this year will be a return trip to The Goodwin March 30 – April 1.
Â
Season Review
Little Rock had another season for the record books in 2021-22, a year which included a conference championship and a repeat appearance in the NCAA Regionals. The Trojans captured the 2022 Sun Belt Championship in their final season as members, besting Georgia Southern 3-1-1 in the match play championship for the third conference title in program history. Little Rock then competed in the NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional, just missing a repeat trip to Scottsdale, Arizona by placing sixth with a 25-over 889. The Trojans ended the year with a team scoring average of 288.48 – second in program history – including four team tournament titles.
Â
Return of Albers
Little Rock will once again be anchored by fifth year senior
Anton Albers, who is coming off arguably the best year in program history. Albers finished the year ranked 31st nationally in the GolfStat rankings, posting a program-record 70.97 scoring average with eight top-10 finishes and 20 rounds of par-or-better. The Buchholz, Germany native raked in the national awards, being named Sun Belt Golfer of the Year, PING All-Central Region and honorable mention All-American as well as a second team CoSIDA Academic All-American for his work in the classroom.
Â
Returning Strengths
Albers will be joined in the lineup by two other All-Sun Belt selections in seniors
Magnus Lomholt and
Jansen Smith. Lomholt was a first team all-conference selection after finishing second on the team with a 72.33 scoring average and 17 par-or-better round, notching four top-10 individual tournament finishes. Smith was a second team All-Sun Belt honoree, ranking third on the Trojans with a 72.97 average, adding 14 par-or-better rounds and a pair of top-10 tournament finishes as both he and Lomholt registered runner-up showings on the year.
Nico Horder also returns for his third year as he posted a 75.39 average and was a member of both the Sun Belt Championship and NCAA Regional rosters.
Â
Welcome to the Rock
Harrington added a pair of talented newcomers in the offseason, including
Matteo Cristoni, a transfer from Grand Canyon who led the Lopes in scoring as a freshman and was an All-WAC first team selection. Harrington also brought in freshman
Rhett South from Fayetteville who captured the Arkansas all-state title in 2021, competing for Farmington High School.
Â
Near and Far
Little Rock will have quite a mix on this year's roster as it will be represented by five different countries and a pair of states. The Trojans will have two players from the state of Arkansas (
Phisher Phillips and
Rhett South) and one from Texas (
Jansen Smith) while being represented internationally by Germany (
Anton Albers and
Nico Horder), Denmark (
Magnus Lomholt), Italy (
Matteo Cristoni), Northern Ireland (
Ryan McNelis) and England (
Archie Smith and
Louis Talarczyk).
