Little Rock will be one of 14 teams competing in Chicagoland next week and are one of seven that qualified for the NCAA postseason last year. The Trojans, which finished 2021-22 ranked 43rd nationally, are one of nine top-100 teams among the field, joined by South Florida (No. 30), North Florida (No. 36), Northwestern (No. 50), UC Davis (No. 63), Kent State (No. 64), Indiana (No. 66), Marquette (No. 93) and Wisconsin (No. 97).
Â
Trojan Lineup
Head coach
Jake Harrington will use a similar lineup from the season-opening event in San Francisco, led by sophomore
Matteo Cristoni in the number one spot.
Anton Albers,
Jansen Smith and
Nico Horder will return to action for the Trojans with sophomore
Archie Smith making his season debut, rounding out the Little Rock scorecard.
Â
Last Time Out
Little Rock opened the 2022-23 season on a high note, taking the team title at the Olympic Club Intercollegiate in San Francisco September 13. The Trojans shot a 7-under 277 in round three, finishing at 7-under 845 and defeating second-place BYU by five shots. The win on the California coast gives Little Rock the 32nd team tournament win in program and the 12th under head coachÂ
Jake Harrington. Four Trojans finished in the top-12 individually, led by newcomer
Matteo Cristoni tying for third with a 4-under 209.
Â
Land of Lincoln
This will be Little Rock's first tournament in the state of Illinois since the 2013 D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal when the Trojans tied for fourth with an 11-over 875. Former Trojan Johann Voss tied for sixth with a 3-over 216 at the event as Little Rock competes within the state lines of Illinois for just the second time since the 1992-93 season when records began being kept.
Â
Making Their Mark
Little Rock has come out of the gates in 2022, making its mark in the all-time record books. The victory at the Olympic Club Intercollegiate was the 32nd tournament title in program history and the 12th for Little Rock under head coach
Jake Harrington. Little Rock's 7-under 277 in round three is tied for the 15th-lowest team round in program history while the 7-under 845 is tied for the sixth-lowest 54-hole tournament score for the Trojans.
Â
Quite An Impression
Sophomore
Matteo Cristoni made quite an impression in his first tournament as a Trojan as the transfer tied for third at the Olympic Club Intercollegiate with a 4-under 209, including a 6-under 65 in round two. The Modena, Italy native closed out the event with an even-par 71 as the effort earned him co-OVC Men's Golfer of the Week honors, the first in program history for the Trojans as they join the new league.
Â
Albers Record Watch
Fifth-year senior
Anton Albers notched another impressive career milestone in California, playing in his 100th career round as a Trojan in round two of the Olympic Club Intercollegiate. The 2021-22 Sun Belt Golfer of the Year and PING honorable mention All-American sits among the Little Rock career record book in a number of categories, raking second all-time in scoring average (72.55), tournament wins (three) and par-or-better rounds (46) and sits tied for 15 in career rounds played (101), 19 back of former teammate Logan Pate, the program's all-time leader.
Â
Near and Far
Little Rock will have quite a mix on this year's roster as it will be represented by five different countries and a pair of states. The Trojans will have two players from the state of Arkansas (
Phisher Phillips andÂ
Rhett South) and one from Texas (
Jansen Smith) while being represented internationally by Germany (
Anton Albers andÂ
Nico Horder), Denmark (
Magnus Lomholt), Italy (
Matteo Cristoni), Northern Ireland (
Ryan McNelis) and England (
