Smith, Cristoni Among Top-Five at Windon Memorial Classic

Smith sits second with a 7-under 133 through 36 holes

SKOKIE, Ill. – Jansen Smith opened up the first two rounds of the Windon Memorial Classic in style for Little Rock, firing a 7-under 133 through the first two rounds to sit second among the individual leaderboard. The effort paced Little Rock to a 2-over 562 through 36 holes, sitting fifth among the 14-team field.

Smith opened up the morning round with a 5-under 65 on the par-70 course, finishing with five birdies and 13 pars to hold the individual lead after 18 holes. Smith then used a 2-under 68 in round two, comprised of four birdies and 12 pars to log the 7-under 133, tied for the third-lowest 36-hole tournament total in program history.
 
Smith was joined among the top-five by teammate Matteo Cristoni, who is tied for fifth with a 3-under 137. The reigning OVC Golfer of the Week fired an even-par 70 in round one, comprised of three birdies and 12 pars, then followed that up with a 3-under 67 in round two, highlighted by an eagle on the par-five 13th hole.
 
Little Rock opened up the 36-hole day with an even-par 280, sitting second among the team leaderboard. Smith's 65 paced the Trojans, followed by the 70 from Cristoni and a 2-over 72 from Archie Smith.
 
The Trojans then went 2-over 282 in the afternoon round, paced by the 67 from Cristoni and the 68 from Jansen as Archie posted a 1-over 73 to sit tied for 37th with a 5-over 145. Nico Horder sits at 7-over 147 (73-74) with Anton Albers rounding out the Trojan scorecard at 11-over 151 (76-75).
 
Little Rock sits within striking range of making a move Tuesday, sitting one shot back of fourth place North Florida (1-over 561) and three behind third-place Memphis (1-under 559). Kent State holds the team lead at 4-under 556, one shot better than second-place Marquette (3-under 557) with the Tigers, Ospreys and Trojans rounding out the top-five.
 
Tuesday's final round will begin with tee times as the Trojans will be among the second wave to tee off from hole one, playing with North Florida and Indiana in the final round pairings. Albers will lead off the Trojans at 8:45 a.m., building up to Jansen's 9:21 a.m. start. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
