NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Little Rock senior
Jansen Smith has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Male Golfer of the Week following his impressive performance at the Windon Memorial Classic earlier this week.
Smith finished second among the 80-player field with a 5-under 205, one off the individual lead. Smith opened the tournament with a 5-under 65, followed by a 2-under 68 and closed out the event with a 2-over 72. The 65 in round one and the 205 for the 54-hole event are both tied for the fifth-best performances in program history and matches his career-best.
The San Angelo, Texas native finished even on both the par-three and par-four holes and was 5-under on par-fives, tied for second among the field. The runner-up showing was the second of his Little Rock career as Smith now has four top-10 career individual showings and 18 rounds of par-or better, sitting tied for the team lead with a 69.50 scoring average in 2022-23.
The effort by Smith helped guide Little Rock to a tie for second in the team standings at the Windon Memorial, shooting a 7-over 847. Smith shares the weekly conference honor with Tennessee State's Mikus Ming, who tied for first at the 37th annual HBCU Golf Invitational, and he becomes the second Trojan to earn OVC Golfer of the Week honors, joining
Matteo Cristoni on September 14.
Little Rock's runner-up showing at the Windon Memorial Classic began a busy stretch of four tournaments in four weeks as the Trojans now head to Dallas for the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational October 2-4.
