ST. CHARLES, Mo. — If nothing else, the Little Rock volleyball team is showing that it will not give up. Trailing two sets to none in the second match of the series, the Trojans responded by picking themselves up to complete a reverse sweep of Lindenwood on Saturday at Hyland Arena.
Saturday's win is Little Rock's first conference win on the road and kept the Trojans (7-15 overall, 4-7 OVC) within reach of the eighth spot in the Ohio Valley Conference postseason tournament, which takes place in late November.
Lindenwood (11-12, 7-5) took the first two sets by scores of 25-21, 25-21, then Little Rock stormed back to win the final three – 25-20, 25-13, 15-9.
Daedrianna Cail turned in a performance for the program record books, finishing with 14 kills on .433 hitting and totaling 14 blocks – which ranks second in program history for a single match. She fell just three digs shy or recording a triple-double.
Several others were also pivotal in the winning performance, including
Dariana Valencia (24 assists, 11 digs),
Jeila Fullerton (12 digs, 9 kills, 4 blocks, 3 aces),
Kaylee Smith (13 assists, 9 digs), and
Andrea Roman (25 digs).
Sophia Garrido added six kills and four blocks, Daria Burros had five kills and four blocks and the Trojans obliterated the previous team record for blocks in a single match with 29, breaking the previous record of 22.5 set back in 2001.
Little Rock finishes a three-match trip in Missouri on Monday night with a 6 pm contest at Southeast Missouri (17-5, 9-2). The Trojans return home next Friday and Saturday to host conference-leader Eastern Illinois (20-3, 10-2).
