Anton Albers Named OVC Co-Male Golfer of the Week

Albers earned his 4th career win at Louisiana Classics this week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After claiming the top spot at the 38th Annual Louisiana Classics, Anton Albers has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Male Golfer of the Week. This recognition caps off a record-breaking week for Albers, whose 1-under 212 (74-69-69) finish gave him his 4th career win, tying him with Daniel Fox (1998-2001) for most wins in program history. The fifth-year standout also notched his 119th round as a Trojan this week in Lafayette, just one round off from tying yet another program record.

Albers' 2-under 69 in the second and third rounds were tied for the lowest rounds at the tournament and led him to his second top-10 finish of the year and 9th par-or-better round of the year. Albers ended the event even on par-three and par-four holes, which tied him for third and placed him solo in second, respectively.

This week's accolade marks the third straight week a Little Rock golfer has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Golfer or Co-Golfer of the Week as Jansen Smith earned the honors on Mar. 2 and Matteo Cristoni got the nod last week (Mar. 9).  A Trojan golfer has been named Golfer or Co-Golfer of the week five times this year, more than any other OVC school.

Albers and the rest of the Trojans will get a well-deserved break from competition before continuing the season at TPC Harding Park in Palo Alto, Calif. for The Goodwin Mar. 30 – Apr. 1. The Trojans finished 6th out of 28 teams at last year's showing, but look to improve this time around and continue an impressive season as the team has finished either first or second in six of eight tournaments this year.
