Aaliyah Mathis Claims Two Wins on Final Day of Richard Martin Jr Invitational

Sophomore thrower wins shot put, discus in Conway

CONWAY, Ark. – Little Rock's Aaliyah Mathis went 2-for-2 Saturday, winning gold in both the shot put and discus throws as action wrapped up at the Richard Martin Jr Invitational in Conway.

Mathis' pair of wins were two of the 13 events in which Little Rock won. The first for Mathis came in the discus throw as the Trojans swept the top three spots. Mathis led the way with a throw of 155-4 (47.35m) followed by Alison Stephens finishing second with a throw of 147-7 (44.98m). Allison Stigarll rounded out the trio as her throw of 137-6 (41.91m) placed her third.

Not long after that, Mathis claimed another win as her shot put throw of 43-9 (13.33m) led the field and ranks sixth in school history. Janae Largins claimed silver with a throw of 43-1.75 (13.15m) with Stigarll placing fourth, throwing 40-4 (12.29m).

Trojan throwers dominated on the men's side as well with Desmond Frazier shattering his own school record in the shot put by over three feet as he claimed gold as well. Frazier's throw of 56-0.5 (17.08m) far surpassed his old record of 52-10.25 (16.11m).

Freshman Brooklyn Marcee posted the fourth-best pole vault mark in school history as she claimed gold by clearing 10-11.75 (3.35m) with Ludovica Polini clearing the same height to finish second.

Both 4x100m relay teams easily won. The women's quartet of Jaelyn Tucker, Landri Schreier, Takia Palmer and Maliyah Holland clocked 47.51 while the men's group of Frankie Grey, Troy McKnight, Dion Murombe and Ryan Curington ran 46.88.

Spencer Cardinal posted a winning 5K time of 15:07.30 while Aaron Soltmann ran 15:40.58 in the 5K to finish third to get things going on the day.
