Trojan Trio Earn Athlete of the Week Awards from OVC

Bria Allen, Desmond Frazier and Troy McKnight recognized by league

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Little Rock track and field opened the outdoor season last weekend by dominating much of the Richard Martin Jr Invitational at UCA. Now the Trojans are commanding attention around Ohio Valley Conference as three athletes received Athlete of the Week honors from the league Wednesday.

Bria Allen, Desmond Frazier and Troy McKnight were all recognized for their winning performances to open the outdoor season. All three earned their first career athlete of the week honors during outdoor season while McKnight claims his third overall weekly award.

Bria Allen

Allen record her second career win in the long jump as she leaped 5.96m (19-6.75) last weekend at the Richard Martin Jr Invitational. Posting the best long jump mark in school history that includes all marks, Allen claimed the win and posted the best long jump mark in the OVC this season while registering a jump that ranks seventh on the West Prelims Performance List.

Desmond Frazier

Desmond Frazier not only won the shot put last Saturday at the Richard Martin Jr Invitational, he shattered the school record while doing so. Recording the fourth-best shot put throw by an OVC athlete since 2019, Frazier's mark of 17.08m (56-0.5) topped the old school record by nearly a meter (over three feet). His mark is currently good enough to rank 24th on the West Prelims Performance List. The previous day, Frazier tallied a hammer throw mark of 39.22m (128-8) to finish sixth in the competition.

Troy McKnight

Troy McKnight claimed his first outdoor 200m win last Friday as he ran the fastest 200m time by an OVC sprinter since 2018. The Texas native sprinted to a blistering time of 21.17 in the race. He also claimed a second win the following day as he ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay that won with a time of 46.88, marking his fifth career relay win. Both marks currently lead the OVC while his 200m time ranks 18th on the West Prelims Performance List.

Allen's honor makes her the first Trojan female to win a field honor since Sanda Dzile was named Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Week on May 9, 2006. Frazier's award makes him the first Trojan male to receive a field award since Jason Belt was named the Sun Belt Male Field Athlete of the Week on April 25, 2012.

The Trojans are back in action this weekend with split squad action, competing at the Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice while also competing at the Dan Beach Invitational hosted by Southern Arkansas.
