SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Little Rock sophomore
TaVieon Neal raced to a 10.53 time in the 100m dash late Wednesday, finishing 38
th at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships held at Hornet Stadium.
Â
Neal, who qualified for the second time but competed for only the first after an injury sidelined him last season, edged the Javin Bostic, the Mountain West 100m gold medalist out of Air Force, by one-hundredth of a second. It marks the fifth-fastest 100m dash time a Little Rock sprinter has ever recorded at the NCAA Prelims/Regional round.
Â
Despite not advancing in the sprint, Neal's time in Sacramento isn't done yet. He returns to the track Friday when he will compete as part of Little Rock's 4x100m relay team alongside
Cogan DeRousselle,
Frankie Grey and
Troy McKnight.
Ryan Curington, an alternate on that relay squad, did not record a mark in the long jump in other action Wednesday.
Â
Also competing Friday will be
Johnathan Jones in the high jump.
